About the Film

Cultivating Place: The Power of Gardeners is a feature-length documentary film synthesizing the lessons of the first ten years of the public radio program and podcast Cultivating Place. Through that work, writer and host Jennifer Jewell has elevated the voices of gardeners as cultural changemakers — weaving together ecology, history, and community.

This film brings that decade of listening into vivid focus, following ten cultivators whose purposeful relationships with plants and place deepen and expand our understanding of what gardening means. Together, their stories reveal gardening not as ornament, but as a profound act of care — growing resilience in land, people, and culture alike.
